In 1Corinthians 6: 19-20 (NIV), "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

I don't think many of us stop to think that this also applies to the way we manage our healthcare. Being ill is scary. We don't understand medical terminology and our culture has taught us to leave our care up to the doctors-they know what to do. We have a major role to play and a responsibility to actively participate and lead in our own care.

In the parable of the shrewd manager in Luke 16: 1-2, "Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, ‘what is it I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you, cannot be manager any longer.'" (NIV)

Just as we are going to be held accountable for our financial resources management, God will also hold us accountable for the way we manage all of our resources-including our bodies, our health, and our healthcare dollars. We don't usually think of them as part of the resources God has given us to manage.

"Even though my illness was a trial for you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself." Galatians 4:14 (NIV)

Here, Paul is reminding the Galatians of the way they treated him during his illness when he was teaching them about God.  As Christians, we are called to care for and manage the health of others when they can no longer do it for themselves.
